This statue of Saint Denis on the west facade of the cathedral Notre-Dame De Paris is surprising.
The head of Saint Denis, bishop of Paris in the 3rd century, was chopped off.The legend says
that he picked it off and that he carried his head while preaching a sermon during his last walk.
At his feet is a man holding an axe, maybe the executioner.
