Construit comme un petit chateau sur la rive droite de la Seine au XIIIème siècle, le Louvre a
d'abord été une résidence royale. Au fil des siècles le chateau s'est transformé en
vaste palais abritant aujourd'hui un musée d'art de renomée internationale, le musée du Louvre.
(Built as a small castle on the right bank of the Seine in the XIIIth century, the Louvre was at
first a royal residence. In the course of the centuries the castle was transformed in
a large palace sheltering a wellknown art museum, the Musée du Louvre.)
La dernière addition est apparue au 20ème siècle, sous forme d'une pyramide de verre et de métal construite par l'architecte sino-américain Ieoh Ming Pei.
(The last transformation appeared at 20th century, in the form of a pyramid of glass and metal
built by the Sino-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei.)
La pyramide est ouverte au public depuis 1989. De part son nombre de plaques de verre
et facettes (666, le nombre de la "Bête"), la pyramide revêt un caractère mythique,
associée au célèbre roman "The Da Vinci code" de Dan Brown.
(The pyramid is opened to the public since 1989. Because of the supposed number of its glass
panes, 666, the number of the "beast" (in fact 673) the pyramid takes on a mythical character, associated with the famous novel " The Da Vinci code " by Dan Brown.)
